Earth Song started with a simple guitar figure and a melody. After putting both into my digital audio workspace, the plan was develop it from there. It took a few days of arranging and demoing but once I found the current arrangement, I knew I had something strong.

I first sent the tune to Erik, asking him to fill the sonic landscape that I hadn't, followed by Caelan and I recording his saxophone part in my garage one mid-November afternoon. After this, I sent the tune to Mike and said "yeah, I don't know, just do whatever." I half-expected Mike to do something ambient and free of time (that's how I heard it in my head) but then he sent me the track with the groove and I was hooked.
